Spirit Lake Baseball Wins Road Game, Softball Cut Short

Tuesday’s wet weather couldn’t prevent Spirit Lake from traveling to Bancroft and exiting with a hard-fought 2-1 win over North Sentral Kossuth/Armstrong-Ringsted in an exciting non-conference baseball showdown. Junior Casey Jones came through with a two-RBI single in the fourth with the bases loaded to put the Indians ahead. The Eagles tallied their lone run in the sixth off a walk, an error, and a run-scoring single by Brett Thackery. That half-inning came to an unusual close with Spirit Lake catcher Nick Amudson throwing out a runner at third in the middle of Sawyer Doocy’s at bat for NSK/AR. Doocy and the Eagles thought he had drawn a walk, sending the next batter to the plate to start the bottom of the seventh, thus hitting out of order. That resulted in a out instead of a single to lead off by Evan Hagebock and the Indians held on for the win.

Spirit Lake is now 14-5 on the season.

Spirit Lake and North Sentral Kossuth/Armstrong-Ringsted were also set to square off in softball on Tuesday, but heavy rains in Swea City forced a cancellation of the game in the second inning.

Both the Indians baseball and softball squads will head to Emmetsburg on Wednesday for a Lakes Conference doubleheader and both games can be heard live. The softball matchup will be on KUOO Campus Radio and online at Network1Sports.com, while the baseball contest can be heard on Y100 and online at ExploreOkoboji.com.
