Pioneers Roll Late Over Orabs, Indians Dominated at Home (Softball RoundUp)

A dozen batters stepped to the plate in the sixth inning for the Okoboji softball team, resulting in nine runs and propelling the Pioneers to a 12-4 Siouxland Conference win at Sheldon on Thursday. The inning featured four Orabs errors, four Okoboji hits, plus four consecutive bunts dropped down by the Pioneers. Maggie Rohlk finished 2-for-4 with three runs and three RBI, while younger sister Olivia registered two hits and two runs. Mary Eckard had a pair of hits to go along with a run scored and one driven in. Mikkinzie Peschong earned her 15th win of the season and struck out six. The Orabs committed six errors in the contest. Okoboji improves to 7-5 in the league and 19-9 overall. They host MOC-Floyd Valley on Friday.

Spirit Lake softball continued it’s late-season struggles with an 11-1 setback in five innings to Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley in a non-conference battle Thursday. The Comets jumped out early with nine runs in the first against Indians starter Paige Krause. Alli Gerking registered two extra-base hits for Spirit Lake. She scored the lone run on an RBI single from Krause. Spirit Lake falls to 18-12 overall. They return to conference play Friday at Estherville-Lincoln Central, and that game will be carried live on Q102 and online at ExploreOkoboji.com.

Also in the Lakes Conference, Emmetsburg improved to 10-2 win a 9-0 shutout win over Cherokee. The E-Hawks travel to Algona Bishop Garrigan on Friday.
