Class 3A softball coaches in northwest Iowa took notice of the play this season by Spirit Lake’s Alli Gerking and Paige Krause, enough so that both landed on the All-District team in 2011.
Gerking led the Indians in runs scored with 44, and was near the top of the list with 45 hits, 22 RBI, and a .391 average. The senior struck out just four times in 115 official at-bats, while also committing just one error in centerfield.
Kruase led Spirit Lake in several offensive catergories, as she registered a .437 average with 52 hits, 58 RBI, and eight home runs. The sophomore shortstop finished the season with a slugging percentage of .807. She also tallied a 3-7 mark as a pitcher.
The Class 2A All-District teams featured Okoboji senior Maggie Rohlk. The outfielder paced the Pioneers with a .381 average, while finishing in the top three on the team with 37 hits and 19 RBI. Rohlk hit one home run in 2011.
Also making the Class 2A list were Emmetsburg teammates Faith Schmidt and Morgan Vlasman, and Estherville-Lincoln Central sophomore Emily Kirchner.
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn senior Onica Jacobs concludes her career with a spot on the Class 1A All-District team. The first baseman hit .438 with 39 hits, and 28 RBI. She also went 9-1 as a pitcher with 47 strikeouts and a 2.08 ERA.
