Four Indians Grab All-District Honors

Spirit Lake’s record setting baseball season means several players are now receiving individual accolades in the postseason. The Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association named it’s All-District teams on Monday, and four Indians made the cut in Class 2A. Senior Mitch Peschon and sophomore Brandon Stoll earned first-team honors, while senior Tyler Dean and sophomore Paul Brown headline the second-team list. Peschon was selected a pitcher after going 7-3 with a 1.64 ERA and 66 strikeouts. He also hit .526 with team highs in runs (44), home runs (8) and RBI (32). Stoll hit .423, drove in 17 runs and scored 18 more, all while playing an impressive third base. Dean, selected as an outfielder, finished with a .388 average and was near the top in every offensive category. Brown, chosen as a second baseman, led the Indians with 41 hits on his way to a .435 average.

Also on the Class 2A All-Northwest District second-team are Emmetsburg junior Ryan Kleigl and Estherville-Lincoln Central senior Marcus Christensen. Both outfielders, Kleigl batted .375, leading the E-Hawks with 24 runs scored and 35 stolen bases, and Christensen finished with a .342 average and 21 runs scored.

Clay Central-Everly was one of the top Class 1A teams in northwest Iowa and now four of their players have earned all-district honors. Senior pitcher Caleb Batschelet, senior catcher Evan McCarty, and senior utility player Caleb Mackey are all first-team selections. Senior second baseman Nick Roghair received second-team honors.

And in Class 3A, Spencer senior Dillon Schultz, a third baseman, was a second-team All-West District selection. He drove in a team-high 26 runs with a .372 average.
