Spirit Lake hosted its coed cross country invitational at Brooks National Golf Course on Tuesday, and history was made in the boy’s competition. Will Norris of Spirit Lake set a course record with a time of 15:42 to win his first ever high school cross country meet. He narrowly beat teammate Keith Byers, who finished second with a time of 15:53, good for third on the all-time list for the course. Kyle Anderson ran to a ninth place finish (17:10). Harris-Lake Park was represented by Kayne Feldick, who finished thirteen (17:27). As a team, Spirit Lake took second (74), four points back of Unity Christian (70). Spencer ran to a fifth place finish (95) and Emmetsburg was seventh (196).
The girls competition was dominated by Unity Christian with an impressive team score of just 46 points. MOC-Floyd Valley was second at 74. Spencer took fourth (85), Estherville-Lincoln Central/Armstrong-Ringsted was fifth (88), Spirit Lake sixth (151), and Emmetsburg eighth (212). The Indians were paced by Dondi Schmidt’s eighth place time of 16:17.
