Okoboji’s Hilsabeck Takes First CC Title (Cross Country RoundUp)

Okoboji junior Joe Hilsabeck reached a new pinnacle Thursday night at the Okoboji Cross Country Invitational held at Woodlyn Hills Golf Course. The distance runner recorded his first career high school victory in winning the boys portion of the coed invite with a time of 17:51. The rest of the Okoboji team, which consisted of Keith Oskvig, Taylor Cody, Zach Jones, Chris Albright, and Colby Kraninger all finished between 16th and 22nd place. As a team, that put the Pioneers in third place with 71 points. Central Lyon/George-Little Rock won the meet with 59 points, followed by West Lyon (64). Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn and Sibley-Ocheyedan were incomplete in the team competition.

As for the girls half of the meet, Sioux Center finished atop the point standings with 31 points, placing six runners in the top 20. Gehlen Catholic was second (95), narrowly edging out Sioux Central (97). Okoboji finished fourth with 118 points, while Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn and Sibley-Ocheyedan were both incomplete. The Generals’ Leah Seivert won the individual race in a time of 15:50 and teammate Amy Dreessen was sixth (17:51). Clare Eckard paced the Pioneers at 17:40, good for fourth overall. Teammate Olivia Albright came in 16th (19:25).
