The Labor Day Weekend featured a couple of high school volleyball tournaments in northwest Iowa. Over in Sheldon, both Emmetsburg and Sibley-Ocheyedan played their way to 1-5 records. The E-Hawks earned a 21-12, 21-14 win over Newell-Fonda, while suffering losses to Central Lyon (24-22, 21-13), Hinton (21-10, 21-11), LeMars Gehlen Catholic (21-7, 21-6), Sheldon (21-4, 21-10), and Sibley-Ocheyedan. The Generals knocked off Emmetsburg in two games, 21-6, 21-13. S-O took their lumps with five losses to Central Lyon (21-17, 21-14), Cherokee (21-7, 18-21, 15-9), Hinton (21-16, 21-9), LeMars Gehlen Catholic (21-11, 21-7), and Sheldon (21-3, 21-14).
North Sentral Kossuth/Armstrong-Ringsted competed in the Algona Invitational and came away even at 2-2. The Eagles took down Webster City (17-21, 21-11, 15-12) and Belmond-Klemme (21-14, 21-15). NSK/AR lost matches to Algona (21-15, 21-14) and Lake Mills (21-12, 21-8).
