Indians, Knights, Wolves, and E-Hawks Win Big (Football RoundUp)

The Spirit Lake defense made sure the Indians would have a successful Homecoming celebration Friday, controlling the field position battle and forcing two first quarter turnovers as part of a 42-14 win over previously unbeaten Sheldon. The Orabs failed to score in the games first three quarters and had less than 50 yards of total offense at the half against the Indians defense. That unit held all-district quarterback Chris Balster to just 84 yards of total offense, well below his normal 221 yards per game average. Offensively for Spirit Lake, Paul Brown completed seven passes for 122 yards and two touchdowns. Cody Poock accounted for 50 yards of offense, including a touchdown passing and receiving. Zach Herrig caught two TD passes as part of an 84-yard night, Rick Maris ran for a team-high 54 yards, and Bryson McCabe found the end zone twice. Sheldon falls to 4-1 overall and 1-1 in district play with the loss. Spirit Lake remains unbeaten at 5-0 this season and now 2-0 in the district. The Indians travel to Central Lyon/George-Little Rock next Friday, a game that will be live on KUOO.

Also in Class 2A, Western Christian rebounded from last week’s loss with a 27-7 victory over Sioux Center. Both of those teams are now 1-1.

Graettinger-Terril had no trouble with rival Ruthven-Ayrshire, ruining Homecoming for the Raiders with a 52-8 decision in an 8-man football matchup. The Knights scored on seven of their nine first half possessions. Quarterback Blaze Alesch ran four times for 112 yards and two touchdowns, while also throwing for 37 yards and two scores. As a team, G-T racked up 350 yards on the ground. The Raiders were paced by Carter Williamson, who amassed 65 yards rushing and 43 throwing. He scored the lone touchdown in the fourth quarter for the Raiders, who are now 1-3 overall and 0-1 in district play. The Knights are back to even at 2-2, and boast a 2-0 record in the league.

Harris-Lake Park hit the road to pick up district win number one this season, beating Corwith-Wesley-Luverne in a rout, 65-6. The Wolves are now 4-1 this fall and will return home to take on North Sentral Kossuth in one week, and that game will be carried live on Q102.

The state’s longest active winning streak reached 28 games Friday, as Armstrong-Ringsted dominated North Sentral Kossuth to the tune of a 72-14 romp.

A pair of 100-yard rushers led the Emmetsburg E-Hawks to a convincing 40-0 win over Pocahontas/Pomeroy-Palmer on Friday. Brady Berkland tallied 108 yards and crossed the goal line three times, while Andrew Wellick registered 101 yards and three more touchdowns. Emmetsburg improves to 2-0 in Class 1A district play and now 4-0 overall. They play at South O’Brien next week, a game that can be heard live on Y100.

Other Class 1A scores, include Sibley-Ocheyedan taking a low-scoring game with Sioux Central, 12-7, and West Lyon squeaked by the Wolverines of South O’Brien by a point at 21-20.
