Pioneers Fall Short in Final Road Test (Volleyball RoundUp)

Okoboji’s final test of the volleyball regular season came on the road Thursday against George-Little Rock, and the Mustangs prevailed in four games, 25-10, 12-25, 25-21, and 25-10. Skylar Hansen was the top hitter for the Pioneers with seven kills, while Darby Jones and Abby Taylor both had six kills. Jones also finished with a team-high five blocks. Sydney Boeckholt handed out 15 set assists and Faith Bartlett collected eleven digs. Okoboji ends the season at 13-14 overall and 1-8 in the Siouxland Conference. They will host North Sentral Kossuth/Armstrong-Ringsted in the first round of the Class 2A Regionals on Tuesday. That match will be broadcast live on Q102.

The rest of the Siouxland schedule saw Boyden-Hull cap a co-championship season with a sweep of Rock Valley, 25-15, 25-13, 25-13. MOC-Floyd Valley will finish a game back and tied for second after taking down Central Lyon in three games, 25-9, 25-17, and 25-17. The Dutch are even with Sioux Center, who needed four games to end the season with a win over West Lyon, 25-11, 25-9, 25-23, and 25-13.

There was one match in the Lakes Conference and it featured two teams still looking for their first win in league play. After four sets, the Storm Lake Tornadoes had defeated Emmetsburg, 25-19, 25-20, 24-26, and 25-20. The E-Hawks end the regular season conference schedule at 0-7, and sit at 3-24 overall. They will play in the Storm Lake Tournament this Saturday.

North of the border, Jackson County Central earned their 14th consecutive win, beating Pipestone in three sets, 25-15, 25-9, and 25-22. Worthington dropped the first game against Fairmont, but went on to win three straight, 19-25, 25-17, 25-12, and 25-22. Martin County West was unable to close out Cedar Mountain/Comfrey in a sweep, but held on for the four-game victory, 25-17, 25-22, 23-25, and 25-22. And Mountain Lake/Butterfield-Odin got by Round Lake-Brewster in four games, 15-25, 25-17, 25-19, and 25-9.
