HLP Boys Rally, Girls Falter, While E-Hawks Split Doubleheader (Basketball RoundUp)

On the high school basketball court Thursday night, Harris-Lake Park went 1-1 in a doubleheader at George-Little Rock. The Mustangs got the better of the Lady Wolves, taking a 57-41 victory in the girls contest. The loss means HLP currently sits at an even 5-5 mark overall. In the nightcap, Harris-Lake Park needed to rally from a twelve-point halftime deficit to solidify their tenth straight win, 60-51, over George-Little Rock. Eli Ihnen led the offensive charge with 19 points, Brady Nissen finished with a dozen points, and Tanner Hiveley picked up a double-double of 15 points, 14 rebounds. Both the Wolves girls and boys teams travel to Ventura on Friday night.

Emmetsburg also split a non-conference doubleheader as they hosted Manson NW Webster on Thursday. Game one ended with a 51-41 loss for the E-Hawks, who trailed 18-9 after the first quarter. Paige Naig poured in a game-high 27 points as Emmetsburg falls to 6-4 this season. The E-Hawks did win the boys contest, 59-43, against the Cougars. Three players reached double figures, with Ryan Kliegl scoring 21 points, Zach Overberg thirteen points and Jake Carlson finished with eleven points. Emmetsburg will host Spirit Lake on Friday in a Lakes Conference twinbill that will air live on KUOO Campus Radio.

Elsewhere, the boys of Estherville-Lincoln Central notched win number four of the season, taking down Pocahontas/Pomeroy-Palmer, 58-53. Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire fell to 1-8 on the season after a 56-38 non-conference loss to Laurens-Marathon. Sioux Central and Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn played to a 57-49 score in favor of the Rebels. The loss drops HMS below .500 at 4-5.
