Pioneers, Indians, and Wolves All Win League Games (Girls Basketball RoundUp)

Okoboji led start to finish Friday night and swept the season series with rival Sibley-Ocheyedan with a 33-30 decision. Skylar Hansen netted more than half of the Pioneers points, finishing with 18. Generals senior Alyssa Hibbing did score half of S-O’s points, registering 15 points in the loss. Sibley-Ocheyedan is 3-7 in league matchups and will take a 4-7 overall record to Spirit Lake on Monday, which will air on KUOO. Okoboji’s win snaps a five-game losing streak, and pushes their record to 4-8 overall and 3-7 in conference. The Pioneers travel to George-Little Rock on Tuesday.

In the rest of the Siouxland, Boyden-Hull pulled away from the Mustangs in a 39-25 victory. West Lyon blew out Rock Valley, 55-36. MOC-Floyd Valley remains unbeaten with a 56-30 defeat of Sioux Center. Central Lyon was victorious over Sheldon, 46-34.

Down 11-2 late in the first quarter, Spirit Lake answered with a 21-4 run to close out the half, eventually taking down Emmetsburg, 48-40. KJ Veldman, the state’s leading scorer, tallied 25 points and pulled down nine rebounds. Cara Vale registered eight points and eight boards. The E-Hawks top scorer was Paige Naig, who controlled the paint en route to 24 points. Emmetsburg’s record sits at 6-5 overall and 2-4 in conference. They travel to Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn on Tuesday for a non-conference battle on Q102. The Indians boast a 7-3 mark and 4-2 record in league games, with a non-conference test against Sibley-Ocheyedan set for Monday. That game can be heard on KUOO.

The rest of the Lakes Conference slate had Western Christian routing Spencer, 88-46. Brooke Wolterstorff dropped in 33 points for the Wolfpack. The Tigers, who committed 40 turnovers, got an eleven-point effort from Heather Williamson to lead the way. Spencer is 5-4 this winter and and even 3-3 in conference. Also, the second-ranked Midgets of Estherville-Lincoln Central suffered their first setback of the season, falling 65-59 in overtime to sixth-ranked Bishop Heelan. The game was played at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City. ELC is 11-1 this season.

On the road in Cornbelt Conference play, Harris-Lake Park edged out Ventura, 37-36, on Friday. The Wolves have six wins to five losses on the year, with a 5-1 record in league contests. HLP hosts Ellsworth, Minnesota on Monday. Also in the Cornbelt, North Sentral Kossuth/Armstrong-Ringsted dismantled CWL, 56-16.

Elsewhere in girls hoops, Sioux Central pulled out a 44-39 win over Prairie Valley. North of the border in Minnesota, Jackson County Central won at Pipeston, 43-30. Martin County West lost to Murray County Central, 50-34. Fairmont won at New Ulm, 62-47.
