The Okoboji Pioneers competed in the Rock Valley Tournament on Saturday, and returned with a third-place team finish and a pair of individual titles. The Pioneers racked up 136 points, trailing Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley and Sioux Falls Lincoln in the ten-team event. Zach Jones (160) and Tanner Taylor (182) dominated their way to the top of the medal stand, combining for five wins by fall. Taylor Cody (138) also enjoyed a successful afternoon, going 2-1 with two pins to finish runner-up. Okoboji returns to dual competition Thursday when they wrestle for a Siouxland Conference title against MOC-Floyd Valley and Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley.
Sixth-ranked Spirit Lake Park was one of six schools at the Estherville-Lincoln Central Dual Tournament this weekend. The Indians struggled to a 1-4 record on the day, with the lone victory coming over winless Sioux City Bishop Heelan, 48-24. SLP suffered losses to eventual champion Linn-Mar (64-9), along with Forest City (43-33), Blue Earth, MN (45-36), and to the rival Midgets (43-31). ELC finished in a three-way tie for second at 3-2, but fell to fifth-place as a result of fewer individual matches won. The Midgets took down Blue Earth (39-32) and Bishop Heelan (54-25), before taking setbacks to Forest City (52-24) and Linn-Mar (58-12). Spirit Lake Park returns to the mats Thursday when Spencer comes to town with the Lakes Conference title on the line. KUOO will have coverage of the dual.
