Spirit Lake, JCC Split Border Battle Golf Duals (Golf RoundUp)

In high school golf, Spirit Lake and Jackson County Central met in the Lakes area for their traditional spring border battle, which the Indians and Huskies would split between the boys and the girls. Spirit Lake won the boys dual by a 166-179 margin at Brooks National. Zach Skopec would take medalist honors for the Indians after defeating JCC’s Joe Brinkman in a one-hole playoff. Both golfers shot rounds of 40. The Indians also counted three scores of 42 from Scott Hummel, Corey Potter, and Trevor Caldwell. The Huskies received a 45 from Jack Ringkob, and 47’s by Kyle Edlin and Kyle Kapplinger.

The girls competition went to Jackson County Central, as they defeated Spirit Lake, 187-198, at Okoboji View. UNI recruit Kaylee Benson had the lowest round with a 39 to take medalist honors for JCC. Emma Lilleberg helped out with a 48, followed by a 49 from Allison Benson, and a 51 from Lexi Hoffman. The Indians’ top score came from senior Whitney Berkland, who carded a 45. Taylor Reitz came in with a 48, Hannah Wiedemeier finished at 51 and two other tied at 54.
