Tigers Beat Out SLP, ELC, & Okoboji at Spencer Invite (Track & Field RoundUp)

Many area girls track and field teams were in Spencer Friday night, and the hometown Tigers proved to be the best of the bunch. Spencer won the team title with 165 points, surpassing second-place Spirit Lake Park by 22 points (143). Estherville-Lincoln Central came in third (91), Sheldon fourth (88), Okoboji fifth (49), Storm Lake sixth (38), and Emmetsburg seventh (15) in the “2A” Division. Spencer took top honors in eight events, while the Indians won gold in five. Dondi Schmidt broke the tape first in the 1500-meter run at 5:13.57, Taylor Sieperda was again the fastest in the 100-meter dash at 13.28, while Emily Mercer won the discuss at 109’5″ and Jenna McCoy the long jump with a distance of 15’10”. SLP also won the 4×100 relay, with Julie Sjuve, Kendra Stokke, Abbey Horsman, and Miranda Brueggeman combining for a time of 53.29. The Pioneers received one second-place finish (4×100 relay) and two thirds on the night.

The “1A” Division team title went to Sioux Central with 194 points, as the Rebels easily distanced themselves from second-place West Bend-Mallard at 155 points. Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn was third (108), followed by South O’Brien fourth (84), Clay Central-Everly fifth (24) and Forest Ridge sixth (9).
