In a battle between Lakes area rivals, the Spirit Lake girls golf team pulled out a ten shot victory over Okoboji at Woodlyn Hills on Friday. The Indians shot a 192 on the Pioneers home track, besting Okoboji’s 202 team score. Freshman Alex Mankle of Okoboji was the meet medalist with a low round of 40, followed by Kiley Wermersen’s 43 as runner-up. The Pioneers also counted rounds of 56 from Erin Richey and 63 by Sara Mayer. Spirit Lake was led by Whitney Berkland’s 46, followed by a 48 from Abby Goodenow, and two 49’s by Hannah Wiedemeyer and Kelsa Berkland.
The Harris-Lake Park boys’ golf team picked up another lopsided Cornbelt Conference dual win Friday, handing North Union a 169-203 setback at Silver Lake Country Club. Nathan Kyle sat atop the leaderboard with the lone round under 40, shooting a 38 for medalist honors. Also pitching in were Eli Ihnen with a 43, while Ryan Mann and Connor Gunderson each fired rounds of 44. Sawyer Doocy paced the Warriors with a 47.
The girls matchup saw North Union defeat Harris-Lake Park, 215-233. Macy Gunderson of HLP was medalist at 49. The Lady Wolves also counted a 60 from Emily Anderson, a 61 by Rachel Vellema, and a 63 by Amanda Hibma. Stormy Johansen’s round of 51 paced the Warriors.
In other boys’ golf action, Jackson County Central nudged past Estherville-Lincoln Central, 172-174, to win the non-conference border battle in Jackson.
