Pioneers’ Mankle, Spirit Lake Girls Victorious (Golf RoundUp)

Okoboji’s Alex Mankle returned to her winning ways in commanding fashion Tuesday. The freshman, whose streak of four straight Siouxland Conference wins ended earlier in the week, was the medalist at the tour stop at Central Lyon with a round of 38, a five-shot lead over the four-way tie for second. The Pioneers finished third as a team with a 197 total, with Sheldon (183) and MOC-Floyd Valley (191) going 1-2. Okoboji received scores of 46 from Kiley Wermersen, 50 by Sara Mayer, and a 63 from Alex Adams.

MOC-Floyd Valley was able to defend their home course during the boys Siouxland tour stop in Orange City, though the Dutch received some serious pressure from Okoboji. The Pioneers 156 team total was three shots back of MOC-Floyd Valley’s 153. Sibley-Ocheyedan was third at 157. James Halbur finished in the top-four and paced Okoboji with a 37. Wes Berguson carded a 39, while Tyler Ohl, Ben DeMuth, and Mike Luhrs all tied at 40. The Dutch’s Mitch McDonough was the medalist with a 36, winning in a playoff over the General’s Ty Hanna and Tristen Roetzel.

Cornbelt rivals Harris-Lake Park and Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire met at Silver Lakes Country Club Tuesday, and the drama spilled over into a sudden death playoff hole to decide a winner. Both teams finished at 180 team totals, and nothing was decided after three playoff holes, bringing up the sudden death situation, which ultimately went to GT/RA by three strokes. Nathan Kyle earned medalist honors with a 38 for HLP, which also counted a 46 from Ryan Mann, Ryan Gembler’s 47, and a 49 from Connor Gunderson. Dylan Smith led the charge for GT/RA with a 42, followed by a 45 from Blaze Alesch, a 46 by Ethan Peterson, and a 47 on the card of Jack Wagner.

Also in the Cornbelt, North Union fell to West Bend-Mallard by a 179-189 margin. Alex Deitering had a 45 to lead the Warriors.

At Okoboji View, the Spirit Lake girls hosted a Lakes Conference triangular, and kept alive their pursuit of a league title. The Indians’ 192 team score bested Spencer by five (197), and LeMars by thirteen (205). Kelsa Berkland and Abby Goodenow tied for runner-up with rounds of 47, while Whitney Berkland fired a 48 and Amanda Williams a 50. Spencer’s Amber Hanson registered a 45 to win the meet. Spirit Lake is 5-0.

Those same teams squared off in Spencer for the boys triangular, and this time the Tigers were atop the leaderboard. Spencer earned a 161, just two shots better than Spirit Lake’s 163. LeMars tallied a 182. John Labernik was the meet medalist with a 37. Corey Potter had a 39 to finish runner-up and lead the Indians, who counted scores of 40 from Scott Hummel and Tate Hanson, along with a 44 by Zach Skopec.

Elsewhere in the Lakes, the Emmetsburg girls won a triangular in Estherville with a 210, outpacing ELC by five (215). Western Christian shot a 244. The E-Hawk’s Taylor Knight won a playoff over the Midget’s Aryn Ward to grab medalist honors after both shot a 47.

The boys triangular ended with Emmetsburg winning with a 158 team total, while Estherville-Lincoln Central and Western Christian tied at 164. Mike Myers shot a 34 for the E-Hawks to hold the top position on the leaderboard.
