Wolves Sweep Mavericks in Twinbill (Baseball RoundUp)




Harris-Lake Park picked up a pair of Cornbelt Conference wins, sweeping a twinbill against Clay Central-Everly on Monday. The Wolves won both games by a single run, taking the first game 6-5 in a walkoff. Tanner Green plated the winning run on a fielder’s choice. Ryan Mann and Connor Gunderson each had two hits. Gunderson got the win, though Colin Brons hurled 6 1/3 innings for a no-decision. In the nightcap, HLP won by a 3-2 margin. Gunderson again picked up the win, this time in a complete game. Mann registered another two hits, including a game-winning RBI in the sixth. The wins push Harris-Lake Park to 2-2 on the season and 2-0 in the conference. The Wolves welcome in Laurens-Marathon on Tuesday.

Also in the Cornbelt, North Union took both games of a doubleheader with Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire. Game one ended 15-0, with game two much closer at 7-6 in favor of the Warriors.

Despite allowing nine runs in the first inning, the Spirit Lake baseball team eventually rallied to take a 13-12 lead over Spencer, using eleven straight runs in a Lakes conference matchup.  The Tigers, though, would get the last say, winning 14-13 after scoring two more runs in the bottom of the sixth. Weston Glienke enjoyed a three-hit night, while Michael Klemme had two hits and two RBI as the Tigers exploded for thirteen hits. Austin Allen picked up the win, pitching in relief of Glienke. Spirit Lake’s Brandon Stoll and Nick Amundson each went 3-for-5. Stoll drove in four runs, and Casey Jones had two hits and two runs driven in. Tate Hanson reached base five times to score three runs. Zach Herrig went down as the losing pitcher after spelling Stoll. The Indians committed six errors. With the win, Spencer is 5-2 overall and 1-1 in the league. They travel to Estherville-Lincoln Central on Wednesday. Spirit Lake, at 2-1 in the conference and 4-2 overall, hosts MOC-Floyd Valley for a non-conference game Tuesday on KUOO Campus Radio.

Also in the Lakes, Lemars beat Emmetsburg 7 – 3 and Storm Lake rallied for a 3-2 walkoff win over visiting Estherville-Lincoln Central.

Over in the Siouxland Conference, Okoboji was doubled up by Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley in a 4-2 setback. The Pioneers are now 5-2 overall, with a league mark of 1-1. Next up is a non-conference home game Tuesday against LeMars.

Meanwhile, Sibley-Ocheyedan took a 14-11 contest against West Lyon, and Sioux Center pulled out a 5-4 win over George-Little Rock in twelve innings.

Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn ran roughshod over West Sioux with a 12-0 shutout of West Sioux in War Eagle play Monday. The Hawks bats racked up 14 hits, while Ryan Flynn tossed a one-hitter with a dozen strikeouts. HMS improves to 7-1 overall and 4-1 in the league. They host Marcus-Meridan-Cleghorn on Tuesday.
