With bragging rights within Dickinson
County on Thursday, Spirit Lake’s
bats spoke loudest in a 16-6 victory over rival Okoboji in six innings. The
Indians racked up 17 hits, to go along with five walks and four hit batters.
Leading 7-1 after four, Spirit Lake broke it open with a five-run fifth,
highlighted by Brandon Stoll’s two-run blast to center. The senior finished
with four RBI, two runs scored on three hits. Casey Jones drove in three,
scored twice, and collected four hits. Okoboji received a three-hit performance from Dalton
Syverson, who scored two times. Alex Koepp and Keith Oskvig each tallied a pair
of hits and a run scored, with Koepp also driving in a run. Nick Wetzeler
earned his first varsity victory, striking out four and allowing six hits.
Okoboji sent three pitchers to the mound, with starter Weston Burgeson taking
the loss. The Pioneers drop to 5-3 overall and return to Siouxland
Conference play Monday against Sibley-Ocheyedan. That game will be aired live
on Q102. Spirit Lake, at 6-5 on the year, plays at
Estherville-Lincoln Central on Friday in a Lakes Conference matchup.

Harris-Lake
Park has won four
straight games following Thursday’s 10-3 victory at Storm Lake St. Mary’s.
Nathan Kyle held the Panthers to two earned runs through 5 1/3 innings. Tanner
Hiveley and Kade Heikens each contributed three hits for the Wolves, who had a
dozen base knocks all together. At 4-3 overall, HLP is off until Monday, when
they travel to West Bend-Mallard for a doubleheader.
A four-game win streak ended last night in Spencer, as the
Tigers dropped a 6-3 contest to North Union.
Spencer got out to yet another quick start, scoring all of their runs in the
first inning. Austin Allen finished with three hits and a RBI to lead the
offense, while Matt Klemme allowed four earned runs and five hits in taking the
loss. He did strike out six batters. Spencer drops to 6-3 and hosts undefeated
LeMars this evening. The Warriors improve to 11-3.
Estherville-Lincoln Central took advantage of nine walks in
a 9-3 road win over Algona Thursday. Billy Snyder pitched to the win, which
puts the Midgets at 4-7 overall heading into Friday’s home game with Spirit Lake.
Elsewhere, Clay Central-Everly took a 14-4 setback at the
hands of Alta/Aurelia, and Western Christian defeated Sioux Center
11-1.
