Lady Wolves Drop Game at Sibley-Ocheyedan (Softball RoundUp)




Spirit Lake hosted the top-rated team in Class 2A, and North Union backed that ranking with a resounding 18-1
victory in four innings. Pre-freshman Bailee Newman got the start and was
eventually replaced by freshman Sami Ashland in the circle. Seniors Emily
Mercer and Cara Vale notched the only two hits for the Indians, who fall to 7-8
overall. Spirit Lake travels to Lakes Conference rival
Estherville-Lincoln Central on Friday. North Union
has won thirteen straight to start the year.

Okoboji hit the road in Siouxland Conference play and
struggled in a 6-1 setback at Central Lyon/George-Little Rock. Freshman
Savannah Heithus suffered the loss, her second of the season. Offensively, the
Pioneers received a hit apiece from Olivia Rohlk, Maddie Bates, Anna Seeger,
and Mikkinzie Peschong. Abby Taylor
scored the lone run. Okoboji falls to an even 2-2 in league play and 5-6 this
summer. They return to Milford on Friday to host
MOC-Floyd Valley.

Harris-Lake
Park gave up their one
run lead in the sixth inning, and then surrendered the game in the seventh in a
4-3 loss at Sibley-Ocheyedan on Thursday. The Lady Wolves scored two runs in
the first inning before adding another in the second. The Generals dented the
scoreboard with a pair of runs in the second, as well. Pinch-hitter Maddie
Lonneman tallied the game-winning RBI. Emma Bruns went 2-for-3 with a two-RBI triple for the
Generals. Jurnea Harberts secured the win on the mound, allowing three runs on
four hits, and striking out five. Macy Gunderson took the loss for the Wolves, as she gave up
four runs on seven hits and struck out two. Mariah Gath registered two RBI. The
loss drops HLP to 5-7, with a doubleheader Monday at West Bend-Mallard. Sibley-Ocheyedan
improves to 3-4 and will take the field Saturday at the KUOO/Q102 Spirit Lake
Softball Tournament.

Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire picked up their second
consecutive win, defeating Pocahontas Area/Pomeroy-Palmer, 11-1, in five
innings. The game turned in the fourth inning, when GTRA plated nine runs.
Hailley Nelson and Brooke Hoffman combined for four hits and five runs scored.
Alyssa Hoffman struck out three and limited the Indians to three hits in the
win. Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire is 5-9 and plays Friday at West
Bend-Mallard.

In the Lakes Conference, Spencer dropped a league game for
the second consecutive night, losing a one-sided contest to LeMars, 15-3. The
Tigers held a short lead, scoring all of their runs in the second; however, it
would not hold up as LeMars pushed nine runs across in the third. The loss puts
Spencer at 3-2 in the conference and 5-5 overall. The Tigers will begin play
Friday in the Bulldogs’ Tournament.

Emmetsburg enjoyed their easiest night in conference
smashing Cherokee, 15-0. Faith Schmidt struck out eleven Braves, while three
E-Hawks batters drove in three runs each. Tenth-ranked Emmetsburg has won
back-to-back games to improve to 3-2 in the league and 9-4 overall. They host
their annual tournament this Saturday.

In other games, Alta/Aurelia pounded out a 17-7 win over
Clay Central-Everly.
