Pioneers Rally for League Win (Baseball RoundUp)




Trailing by three runs and yet to record a hit, the Okoboji
baseball team came together to score seven unanswered runs over two innings to
secure a come-from-behind, 7-3 victory over Sibley-Ocheyedan in a Siouxland
Conference game Monday in Milford. Zach Jones had a key two-RBI triple to tie
the game. Weston Burgeson drove in the game’s winning run in the sixth on a
two-run double. The junior finished with two hits, two RBI, and two
runs scored. Keith Oskvig drew three walks and scored two runs. Jones earned
the win, striking out seven batters in a complete game four-hitter. Grant
Greenfield was 1-for-2 with a run driven in for Sibley-Ocheyedan. Mitchell
VanderSloot, who lost his no-hitter in the fifth, took the loss after allowing
five earned runs. He walked six and struck out six. The Generals fall to 2-5 in
the league with a home game Wednesday against George-Little Rock. Okoboji, at
6-6 on the year and 2-1 in the conference, stays home Wednesday to face Sioux Center.

Spirit Lake made its way around the base paths Monday night
in a 13-1 victory in five innings over Storm Lake.
Paul Brown was the winning pitcher, allowing just one run on two hits against
the Tornadoes. The junior helped his own cause with three hits and two runs
driven in. Cody Poock followed in the lineup with three RBI on two hits. The
Indians took advantage of nine hits and seven walks. Spirit Lake
has won four of their last five games and improves to 4-2 in the league. They travel
to Western Christian on Wednesday to battle the Wolfpack.

Elsewhere in the Lakes, Emmetsburg routed
Estherville-Lincoln Central by an 11-1 final. The E-Hawks pulled away with a
four-run fourth inning, followed by three more runs in the sixth. Jake Jackson
paced the attack with two hits and three RBI, including a home run. Aaron Bird
tallied three hits. Luke Jackson picked up the win with five strikeouts. The
Midgets collected just three hits, one each from Tucker Milburn, Tyler Swanson,
and Evan Hansen. Billy Snyder allowed eight earned runs on ten hits in a losing
effort. ELC drops to 1-4 in the conference and hosts LeMars on Wednesday.
Emmetsburg is an even 6-6 and 3-3 this year, and ventures out of conference
Tuesday at Newell-Fonda.

Spencer dropped a league matchup to Western Christian,
falling 5-2. The Tigers, who had just four hits on the night, own a 2-3 mark in
the league and continue Wednesday at Cherokee.

Harris-Lake
Park extended its winning
streak to six games by sweeping a Cornbelt Conference doubleheader at West
Bend-Mallard. Colin Brons threw a complete game shutout as the Wolves won the
opener, 6-0. Brons surrendered just one hit and struck out thirteen batters. He
also went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Connor Gunderson scored twice on two
hits, and Nathan Kyle drove in three runs with a pair of hits. The nightcap
featured a two-hitter by Eli Ihnen, who struck out 14 batters in a 4-1 victory.
Brons added two more hits and Ryan Gembler had a RBI single. HLP is a perfect
4-0 in league play and travel to Pocahontas Area/Pomeroy-Palmer Tuesday night.

Also, North Union dominated
Clay Central-Everly for a 16-4 decision in five innings, followed by a six
inning, 19-2 win in game two. The Mavericks host Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn on Tuesday. That game can be heard on Q102 and www.exploreokoboji.com.
