Lake baseball made it
seven consecutive wins with an 8-2 victory over Emmetsburg on Monday. The
Indians jumped out early, claiming a 4-0 advantage after the first inning. The
victory propels Spirit
Lake to a 6-2 league
record with a road trip out-of-conference to Sibley-Ocheyedan set for Tuesday.

Lake combined for 38 runs
Monday night, however, the hometown Tigers wound up on the losing end of a
one-sided slugfest, 27-11. Tornadoes starting pitcher Ethan Kenkel helped his
own cause, smashing a three-run homer and a grand slam, all in the first
inning. Storm Lake scored ten runs that frame and
cruised to the five-inning victory. Aaron Krier also finished with a pair of
homers. Spencer drops to 3-4 in the league and plays Wednesday at Emmetsburg, a
game that will air on Y100.
Estherville-Lincoln Central has won four of its last five
after sweeping a doubleheader with Cherokee on Monday by scores of 6-0 and then
6-1. Tucker Milburn hurled a one-hitter in the opener, and Joe Clayton followed
with a three-hit effort on the hill in the nightcap. The Midgets own a 3-5
record in conference and welcome Western Christian to town on Wednesday.
Okoboji hit the road Monday in the Siouxland looking for a
pair of signature road wins, however, league front-runner West
Lyon had control throughout the twinbill. The Wildcats won the
first contest 10-0 in five innings as the Pioneers were limited to a single
hit. Game two would go the full seven innings before West
Lyon finished out an 8-1 victory behind another one-hit pitching
effort. In all, Okoboji batters struck out 21 times. The Pioneers fall to 2-3
in the conference and host Sheldon on Wednesday night.
Also in the Siouxland, Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley eased past
Sibley-Ocheyedan, 11-1. Sheldon won a pitchers duel, 2-1, over George-Little
Rock, and Central Lyon got the win in a slugfest with Sioux Center,
10-8.
Over in the Cornbelt, it was a defensive struggle between North Union and West Bend-Mallard, with the Wolverines
prevailing in the end, 1-0.
