A six-run fourth inning broke open a close Lakes Conference
softball game Tuesday as Spirit
Lake defeated Spencer,
12-3. The Indians led 4-2 before plating the half-dozen runs on six hits in
that fourth as ten batters came to the plate. Paige Krause finished 4-for-4
with a home run, her seventh of season and second in as many games. The junior
drove in three runs and scored four times. Emily Mercer followed in the lineup
with two extra base hits and four RBI. Cara Vale went five innings in the
circle, scattering three hits, two earned runs and four strikeouts. Carly Richardson suffered the
loss. Kari Kramer finished with two hits and a RBI. The loss ends Spencer’s
three-game winning streak and puts the Tigers at 6-3 in conference. They play at
Emmetsburg on Wednesday. Spirit
Lake, winners of seven of
their last nine, sit at 4-6 in the league and travels Wednesday night to
Cherokee.

There is now a tie atop the Lakes Confernece standings after
sixth-ranked Estherville-Lincoln Central went to LeMars and handed the Bulldogs
their first conference loss in a 10-2 victory. The Midgets separated themselves
in the fourth with a four spot. Kendall Bosch struck out 14 batters for the
win. Both teams are 7-1 in conference, with ELC playing at Western Christian on
Wednesday.
Emmetsburg ended a three-game skid with a 4-0 non-conference
win over Algona. Faith Schmidt struck out thirteen and held the Bulldogs to a
pair of hits. The ninth-ranked E-Hawks boast a 17-7 record and host Spencer
this evening.
Okoboji hit the road to take on Pocahontas
Area/Pomeroy-Palmer and returned with a hard-fought 7-5 victory Tuesday.
Savannah Heithus pitched to the win, with Mikkinzie Peschong working the final outs
for the save. The senior, along with Abby Taylor and Cheyenne Kopera, all drove
in runs offensively. The Pioneers will ride a three-game win streak and a 10-10
record into a Siouxland Conference doubleheader against Sheldon in Milford.
Harris-Lake
Park is picking up
momentum, earning a third consecutive win with a 6-0 blanking of Sibley-Ocheyedan
on Tuesday. Macy Gunderson tossed a three-hitter, and Noreen Morrow and Emily
Anderson each had a hit, a RBI, and a run scored. The Lady Wolves now own an
8-12 overall mark and play again Thursday at Pocahontas Area/Pomeroy-Palmer.
