Softball
In War Eagle Conference softball on Wednesday,
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn lost at Remsen
St. Mary’s by an 11-1 margin. HMS was outhit 8-4
and has now lost five straight games. They are 4-9 in league play and begin the
two-day Okoboji Invitational Tournament in Milford on Thursday with games against
Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley and the host Pioneers.
In the Lakes Conference, sixth-ranked Estherville-Lincoln
Central scored four runs in the first inning en route to a 5-1 decision over
Western Christian. Taylor Lago had two RBI and Emily Kirchner struck out eleven
batters. The Midgets remained tied for first in the league with an 8-1 record,
matching the mark of LeMars, who topped Storm Lake,
12-0. ELC takes on the Tornadoes this evening.
Over in the Siouxland, ninth-ranked MOC-Floyd took down
Sibley-Ocheyedan, 9-3. The Generals will also open play Thursday in the Okoboji
Tourney against South O’Brien and Spalding Catholic.
Baseball
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn stayed hot in the War Eagle
Wednesday, securing a 5-1 victory over Remsen St. Mary’s. The Hawks tallied a
9-6 advantage in the hits category in claiming their sixth consecutive win. HMS
boasts a 7-3 league mark and play again Saturday at the Estherville Tournament.
Despite a rain delay and a late surge by Western Christian,
Estherville-Lincoln Central hung on for a Lakes Conference victory Wednesday,
3-2, over the Wolfpack. The Midgets led 3-0 before allowing a pair of late
runs. Gable Bonner and Matt Burrell split the four ELC hits, and Billy Snyder
earned the win on the hill. They now own an even 4-4 league record and travel
out-of-conference on Thursday to battle Harris-Lake Park,
a game that can be heard on Q102.
In the Siouxland, Sibley-Ocheyedan was blanked by MOC-Floyd Valley, 10-0, on Wednesday. The Generals
are 3-8 in conference outings and will try to snap a three-game losing streak
Friday against Okoboji.
