Midgets Blank Wolves in Non-conference Battle (Baseball RoundUp)

Thursday’s non-conference baseball matchup between
Estherville-Lincoln Central and Harris-Lake Park came down to the final three
innings, and ended with the Midgets taking a 3-0 road victory. Scoreless
through four innings, ELC cracked the scoreboard in the fifth when a hit batter
and an error plated the game’s first run. The Midgets tacked on two insurance
runs in the seventh, courtesy of a Gable Bonner two-RBI double. The senior had
two hits, with Billy Snyder tallying the only other two hits. Joe Clayton went
the distance for the shutout win, scattering three hits and striking out eight.
Nathan Kyle took the loss despite ten strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings of work.
HLP’s best chance to score came in the second, but courtesy runner Brady Van
Iperen was thrown out at home by centerfielder Derek Nieland. The Wolves have lost three straight and are 7-6 overall.
They play again Saturday in the HLP Tournament. ELC, with a five-game win
streak, sits at 9-10 this year and hosts Storm Lake
on Friday.

Okoboji struggled on the road Thursday in Siouxland
Conference play, dropping a 10-2 contest at Central Lyon.
Keith Oskvig drove in the Pioneers only two runs with a double that plated
James Halbur and Keaton Jones. Dallas Drexler took the loss on the hill.
Okoboji drops to 2-5 in conference play and has lost nine of their last ten.
They will try to turn things around Friday with a league matchup at
Sibley-Ocheyedan.

In the Lakes Conference, Spirit Lake won its ninth straight game and fifth straight in league play with a 17-3 victory in five innings at Cherokee. Brandon Stoll was 2-for-2 with four RBI and Casey Jones also drove in a pair of runs on two hits. The Indians are 7-2 in conference and host Spencer on Friday.

League frontrunner LeMars remained
perfect in conference outings with an 11-0 blanking of Emmetsburg in five
innings. The E-Hawks tallied just one hit against Bulldogs starter Hunter Rowe.
LeMars is now 9-0 atop the standings, while Emmetsburg falls to 3-7. They
return to the diamond Monday at Western Christian.
