A back-and-forth game between LeMars and Spirit Lake
ended in high drama Monday as the Indians won 11-10 in walkoff fashion. Tied at
ten entering the seventh, Spirit
Lake took advantage of
three walks to load the bases, and junior Paige Krause ended the game with a
single to center. Krause finished with three hits, including a home run, and
drove in four runs. She also earned the win in relief of Cara Vale. Spirit Lake
is 5-6 in the Lakes Conference and travels to Cherokee Tuesday to battle the
Braves, as well as non-conference foe Sheldon.
Trailing 1-0 through four innings, sixth-ranked
Estherville-Lincoln Central scored eleven unanswered runs to take another step
towards the Lakes Conference title. The Midgets sent thirteen batters to the
plate and scored seven runs in the sixth, followed by four in the seventh in
taking the 11-1 decision over the Spencer Tigers. Caitlyn Clayton, Sadie
Winter, and Kendall Bosch all hit home runs for ELC. Bosch was also the winning
pitcher, striking out a dozen batters. Spencer was limited to four hits, with
Kari Kramer scoring the lone run. The Tigers fall to 6-4 in the league and
travel to LeMars on Wednesday. Estherville-Lincoln Central will take their
nine-game winning streak and 10-1 conference mark into Wednesday’s matchup at Spirit Lake.
Emmetsburg kept their hot streak alive, winning for the
sixth consecutive time, 3-1 at Western Christian. Faith Schmidt pitched to the
win, recording nine strikeouts. Emmetsburg improves to 7-3 in the Lakes and
hosts Laurens-Marathon on Tuesday.
Extra innings were needed to decide a winner between
Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley and Okoboji on Monday. In the eighth, the Nighthawks managed to
score a run, stealing a 2-1 Siouxland Conference win from the Pioneers.
Mikkinzie Peschong struck out nine batters in a losing effort. Abby Taylor notched a pair of
base hits, while Maddie Bates drove in Sydney Boeckholt for Okoboji’s lone run.
The Pioneers fall to 4-5 in league outings and travel to Sibley-Ocheyedan on
Tuesday. That rivalry matchup can be heard on Q102.
Elsewhere in the Siouxland, MOC-Floyd Valley shutout Sheldon,
13-0, while Sioux Center earned a 4-1 victory over Central Lyon/George-Little
Rock.
Harris-Lake
Park hit the road Monday to
take on the state’s No. 2-rated team in Class 2A, and the Lady Wolves suffered
two lopsided setbacks in the Cornbelt Conference doubleheader. North Union won the opener of the twinbill 12-0, and then
took the nightcap by a 10-0 final. HLP finishes an even 5-5 in league games and
ventures outside the conference Tuesday with a home game against Alta/Aurelia.
