Estherville-Lincoln Central took another step towards
solidifying a second consecutive Lakes Conference softball title Wednesday with
a 15-3 road victory over Spirit
Lake. The sixth-ranked
Midgets blew open a one run game with a five-spot in both the fifth and sixth
innings. Emily Kirchner had a home run, one of three hits and two RBI. Kendall
Bosch, who got the win on the mound, helped her own cause by going 4-for-5 with
two driven in. Alissa Christoffer led the Indians with a pair of base hits. The
Midgets will take an 11-1 league record to Emmetsburg on Thursday, a game that
can be heard on Y100. Spirit
Lake, now 6-7 in
conference outings, hosts a non-conference game Thursday against Clay
Central-Everly. That game will be broadcast on KUOO.
The E-Hawks will enter Thursday’s game with ELC riding an eight game
winning streak after Wednesday’s 10-0 shutout in five innings over Cherokee. Emmetsburg sits at 8-3, and can keep their conference title hopes alive with
win at home against Estherville-Lincoln Central.
LeMars stayed in the title hunt, as well, defeating Spencer, 7-3.
The Tigers were limited to two hits, one each by Kari Kramer and Karis Rhode.
Carly Richardson
was the losing pitcher of record. Spencer, now 6-5 in conference, will host
Carroll on Thursday.
The late season woes continued Wednesday for
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn, dropping a War Eagle matchup at home to Gehlen Catholic
by an 8-3 final. Jessica Stofferan hit her third home run of the season to pace
the offense. Kendra Zeutenhorst took the loss and struck out one. The Hawks
league record stands at 4-14, and they will hope to end a four-game skid with
a home date against Hinton set for Thursday.
A tough second half of the season came to a close for
Sibley-Ocheyedan, as the Generals lost 6-5 on Senior Night to Clay Central-Everly in a
non-conference contest. The Mavericks rallied to score four runs in the top of
the seventh for the win, their fourth in a row. CCE is 8-12 ahead of its trip
to Spirit Lake Thursday. Sibley-Ocheyedan will take an 18-game losing streak
and 3-22 record into the Class 2A playoffs next Tuesday at West
Lyon.
Elsewhere in the Siouxland, Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley helped
its chance to be crowned league champion with a 6-5 road win over MOC-Floyd Valley. Sioux
Center topped Sheldon, 12-9, and West Lyon earned an 8-5 win at Central Lyon/George-Little
Rock.
