Harris-Lake
Park closed out the
softball regular season with a three-game win streak, capped by Friday’s 3-1
decision over Trinity Christian. Macy Gunderson had eight strike outs and gave
up four hits en route to the win. The Lady Wolves head into the postseason with
a 12-16 record overall and will play Monday against Granville Spalding Catholic
in the Class 1A Regionals. That game can be heard on Q102 at 7:30.
Okoboji struggled against eighth-ranked MOC-Floyd Valley,
dropping a road game by a 10-2 margin. Olivia Rohlk and Miranda Miler each had
two hits, while Abby Taylor drove in a run on one hit. Mikkinzie Peschong took
the loss as the Pioneers record in Siouxland Conference games goes to an even
6-6. Okoboji travels to Sheldon on Monday to wrap up the regular season with a
doubleheader against the Orabs.
Elsewhere in the Siouxland, Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley took
down Sioux Center, 9-5, and George-Little Rock/Central Lyon blanked Unity
Christian, 12-0, in a non-league outing.
Spirit Lake put the finishing touches on their regular
season with a resounding 19-7 win in six innings over Storm Lake.
The Indians outhit the Tornadoes 14-10, while also taking advantage of seven
base-on-balls by Storm
Lake pitching. The win
gives Spirit Lake one more Lakes Conference victory
than last year, finishing 7-7. Overall, the Indians will head to the postseason
with a 19-18 record and having won four of their last six. Tuesday they open
the Class 3A Regionals at Estherville-Lincoln Central against the sixth-ranked
Midgets. KUOO will have live coverage of that matchup.
A late season swoon continued Friday for Spencer, suffering
a 7-1 setback to Western Christian. The Tigers were limited to five hits on
their Senior Night, with Alexa Allen recording the lone RBI. Spencer is 6-6 in
the Lakes Conference and plays Saturday in a non-league game against MOC-Floyd Valley.
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn used the long ball to propel
themselves to a lopsided 12-1 War Eagle Conference victory over West Sioux on
Friday. Jessica Stofferan smashed her fourth home run of the year, part of a
3-for-3 night. Kathryn Ahlers also went yard, a three-run smash for her first
of the season. Michelle Beving also enjoyed a three-hit night with two RBI. In
the circle, Krista Orthmann threw a complete game four-hitter with three
strikeouts. The win caps the regular season for the Hawks, who finish 5-15 in
league play and 10-20 overall. HMS will host their Class 2A Regional opener on
Tuesday against rival South O’Brien.
