High drama unfolded in Milford
as Okoboji wrapped up their regular season with an extra innings win over
George-Little Rock on Senior Night. The game was tied at three after seven
innings, and remained that way until the tenth. The Mustangs would plate three
runs in the top half, leaving the Pioneers to rally for a four-spot and a
Siouxland Conference win. Alex Koepp began the inning with a triple, and was
singled in by Zach Jones. Two batters later and with the bases loaded, Dalton
Syverson tied it up with a two-RBI double. The game’s winning run eventually
scored on a GLR error. Koepp finished with three hits, while four others had
two base knocks. Syverson got the win, striking out five over the last two
innings. Dallas Drexler started the game and allowed just four hits, one earned
run and recorded five K’s through 6 2/3 innings. The Pioneers end league play
at 6-9, and will take an 11-14 mark into Saturday’s Class 2A District opener
against Alta/Aurelia in Emmetsburg. First pitch is set for 5pm.
Elsewhere in the Siouxland, Central Lyon topped conference
champion MOC-Floyd Valley, 4-2, and Sheldon earned a 5-2 decision over
Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley.
Emmetsburg will head to the postseason with a three-game win
streak, following Thursday night’s 4-0 home win over Harris-Lake Park.
E-Hawks pitching limited the Wolves to just three hits, two by Colin Brons. Eli
Ihnen suffered the loss, though he limited Emmetsburg to just four hits. Harris-Lake Park boasts a 14-10 record and has one
final regular season tune-up Friday against Sioux Central. At 12-13, Emmetsburg
will host the opening round of the Class 2A Districts against Estherville-Lincoln
Central on Saturday. Coverage can be heard on Y100.
In other baseball from Thursday, Spencer circled the bases
against Alta/Aurelia, in a 10-4 non-conference victory. The Tigers were issued
nine walks, six of which would come in to score. Spencer is 13-11 on the year
and takes on Bishop Garrigan tonight in Algona. And North
Union defeated Manson NW Webster, 8-3.
